Focal is a desktop PC-based distributed planning solution that provides all members of the treatment team with flexible, convenient access to planning functionality and patient data. Focal is a fully integrated platform with separate modules for image fusion, patient contouring, virtual simulation and plan review. Focal runs on the Windows operating system and combines an intuitive user interface with advanced automation tools to increase the efficiency and clinical effectiveness of treatment planning.

Fast and accurate image fusion

fusion Focal's advanced image fusion tools enable clinicians to effectively leverage the diagnostic capabilities of all available imaging modalities with rapid and reliable automated fusion of standard DICOM images to ensure planning structures have the best possible delineation options. Focal's Mutual Information algorithm delivers quick and accurate alignment of all available imaging modalities with a single mouse click. Registration results can be viewed with powerful image blending and robust checkerboard visualization tools, and manually manipulated for the best possible fit.

Intelligent contouring

contouring Simplify and streamline the planning process with advanced contouring capabilities that allow for quick and easy identification of planning volumes and adjacent anatomy. 3-D contouring and powerful automation tools, including 3-D auto-margin, auto-threshold, and patented auto-segmentation, enable clinicians to create contours effortlessly, while novel interpolation algorithms support the rapid creation of planning structures from as few as two contours. Structures can be created and manipulated effortlessly with flexible drawing and editing tools such as multi-variable size paintbrush.

Fast and effective simulation

simulation Focal’s advanced visualization tools and fully integrated CT simulation capabilities deliver valuable increases in staff efficiency, image quality, and planning accuracy. Dynamic 3-D visualization of patient anatomy and beam parameters, powerful real-time DRR rendering techniques, and multiple customizable views ensure efficient access to all required images and planning perspectives. Planning time is significantly reduced with a range of tools for automated isocenter definition and rapid beam placement and manipulation.

Intuitive plan review

plan review Focal’s multi-vendor plan review features a flexible layout environment, rich graphical displays and a suite of analytic tools to help clinicians compare multiple candidate plans from different planning vendors, quantify and evaluate dose coverage trade-offs, and ensure the best possible course of treatment for each patient. Whether reviewing one, two or three different treatment plans, the flexible display of transverse, sagittal and coronal images along with comparative reference doses allows for quick and easy comparison of plan trade-offs. With the choice of colorwash, isofill and isodose lines, multiple contour display modes, and absolute / percentage dose values, users can customize their experience to suit individual preferences and workflow requirements.
